Credit Officer

Overview of Role

A role for an experienced credit officer working in an established team of credit specialists based in Zurich. The role will include structuring, processing and monitoring of Lombard loans and other lending products (bank guarantees, contingent liabilities, derivative transactions) for the Group’s (ultra) high net worth client base. The candidate will also provide support on various ad-hoc projects and reporting obligations and must be motivated by working in a small team and within a private banking environment where personal interactions matter. We aim to fill this position on grade Associate or Vice President depending on the level of experience of the successful candidate.

Responsibilities

  • Analysing and structuring loans in accordance with the Group’s standard lending parameters or on a bespoke basis for more complex cases
  • Liaising with and supporting the front office in relation to client lending queries
  • Monitoring existing loans and performing annual reviews in accordance with policy
  • Carefully analysing and checking credit orders in Avaloq
  • Performing the daily credit monitoring for all types of different credit transactions such as loans, guarantees, contingent liabilities and the margining for derivative transactions
  • Following and maintaining the credit policy and apply collateral shortfalls, margin calls and liquidation events and actively manage the collateral situation of our lending clients
  • Preparing standard and complex credit applications for the approval of the respective credit committees and liaising with the front office teams as well as with other departments such as legal and compliance and investments
  • Overseeing the documentation process for new loans and amendments to existing loans with input from the legal department and external lawyers as required
  • Preparing regular in-depth credit analysis to build the basis for comprehensive management reports
  • Preparing power point presentations for the monthly and quarterly reporting period
  • Supporting the team with project work related to credit topics and over time, taking over the lead for such projects
  • Working with the team to process bank guarantees for wealthy clients and to monitor these exposures accordingly
  • Assist with structuring and developing the business of loans secured by pledges over (life) insurance policies including the documentation processes
  • Proactively liaising and communicating with client advisers and actively build a network within the bank and the larger group

Education and Qualifications

  • Bank apprenticeship and/or Bachelor in Banking and Finance
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience within the credit department of a Swiss bank including experience in Lombard lending

Experience, Skills and Competencies Required

  • Knowledge and interest in financial markets
  • Fluent in German and English (Written and oral). Any other languages are considered a plus
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft office products (focus on Excel and PPT). VBA knowledge is a plus
  • Experience of lending secured by (life) insurance and universal life insurance business and/or in the set-up of pledges over such policies is a plus
  • Experience of lending into foreign jurisdictions and knowing specific foreign financial regulations and consumer protection laws applicable for the lending business is a plus
  • Avaloq user experience counts as an additional asset
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to negotiate, argue and defend a standpoint
  • Strong analytical skills and capable of multitasking also under time pressure
  • A good team player with a cooperative and solution-oriented personality
  • Efficient and structured way of working
  • Proactive attitude with the ability to demonstrate initiative, attention to detail and reliability
