Postdoctoral researcher (100%)
The Cavazza Lab is looking for a passionate Postdoctoral researcher to work on the mechanism and functions of zygote embryo cell size regulation.
About Us
The Cavazza Lab is a young and ambitious research group at the Department of Reproductive Endocrinology, Faculty of Medicine (UZH and USZ). Our lab aims to understand the causes of infertility in mammals by studying the basic mechanisms of early embryogenesis.
We use state-of-the-art live microscopy to characterize how cellular processes - cell cycle, cytoskeleton regulation, and cell size - cause early embryonic failure in mammals. To this aim, we combine live imaging and molecular perturbation, together with advanced image analysis, proteomics, and genome editing.
We are lucky to be embedded in an IVF Clinic, which favors translational discoveries. More info on the lab, its mission, and its team here.
Your Profile
Training and tech skills:
Prior experience in at least one of these fields: molecular and cell biology, advanced microscopy, and/or image analysis. On-the-job training will complement your skills.

Abilities and soft skills:
You are passionate about biology, very well organized, and able to work efficiently in an international environment. You are proactive, take your own initiative, and can work independently but also as part of a small group.
The Project
We received the SNF project grant to work on the mechanism and functions of embryo cell size regulation. Starting from preliminary data, you will discover the mechanism by which zygotes divide symmetrically, also determining what causes errors in this crucial process. The second part of the project will address the role in early embryogenesis of embryo cell size regulation, and in particular of asymmetric divisions.
You will use bovine embryos, which closely resemble human embryos but are free of ethical constraints and can be generated without animal sacrifice for research.
