The ARTORG Center for Biomedical Engineering Research brings together the biomedical engineering and clinical departments of the University Bern to benefit human health through the translation of multidisciplinary research. The teams at the ARTORG are led by joint technical and clinical group heads to address the unmet needs of patients. By fostering creative teamwork within and across the ARTORG teams, scientific discoveries on novel medical devices for surgery and rehabilitation, simulation of physiological processes and the use of artificial intelligence and smartphone Apps are transformed to improve the delivery of clinical care. Interdisciplinary research into the societal impact of disruptive medical technology and implications on policy and healthcare delivery economics complement the holistic approach to research.
Full Stack Developer
The Ophthalmic Technologies Laboratory (www.artorg.unibe.ch/otl) at the ARTORG Center (OTL) has a strong focus on computer vision and machine learning research, and the work aims to impact patient care by bringing a number of its newly developed methods to different stakeholders like doctors, patients and carers. Current clinical tools that have emerged from the OTL include deep learning methods that can automatically identify pathological biomarkers in eye scans and have enormous potential to improve eye care if integrated into existing care pathways.

The OTL Team is looking for a motivated, full stack developer to join its research and development team. The appointee will pursue the design and development of disruptive delivery solutions for machine learning methods in the medical domain. No previous experience in health-care or deep learning is necessary - only a desire to learn and innovate in this area.
  • Help build and improve web applications which will be used for research and deployed to assist clinicians in there daily work.
  • Design and develop new application modules
  • Collect and analyze medical data
  • Collaborate with a multitude of technical and clinical partners
  • 3+ years of experience developing web applications
  • Experience with at least one front-end JS framework (ReactJS/Angular/VueJS)
  • Experience in NodeJS and Python programming (Django is a plus)
  • Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases (MySQL, graphQL, mongoDB)
  • Experience with Linux System Administration and Docker
  • Interest in learning/applying new machine learning or deep learning methods
  • BS/MS in Computer Science or a related technical field
  • Good English language skills
