The AIA (Artificial Intelligence and Analytics) practice within Cognizant is a team of 22000+ professionals delivering data and analytics driven solutions for customers worldwide. The practice provides advisory, consultation, architecture, design, delivery and support services in data and analytics across a broad spectrum ranging from traditional data management and reporting to the Artificial Intelligence and Cognitive. Summary of Job Description:

The Data Engineer, under minimal supervision, will develop and deliver solution components using one or more of the Big Data technologies and/or solution components. In doing so, the person will work closely with other client and Cognizant project team members, the architecture organization, the client business users and the project manager to ensure delivery aligned to the high standards set by the client and Cognizant. The data engineer will be responsible for accomplishing the stated project and delivery objectives, building components achieving all quality and time objectives. The data engineer will be a part of the wider Cognizant AIA practice and the Big Data CoE within the practice. As an additional responsibility, the engineer will also contribute to the Cognizant and Practice and to her / her personal development.

Big Data Engineer

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

• Design and develop Big Data technology / solution components as per the agreed technical specifications in the technical design documents and according to standards & best practices set by the project team and the client.
• Ensure adherence to quality and time commitments from the project to its owners and stakeholders.
• Perform quality assurance and testing of modules created by self
• Review and provide constructive feedback to deliveries of other team members, as applicable
• Work with the business analyst teams to understand the functional requirements and translating these into acceptable and usable component solutions
• Work and conduct self appropriately in a cross-functional and multi-cultural environment requiring
• Solicit and be receptive to input and feedback from team members and supervisors / manager
• Pursue continuous learning for self and works to create and maintain cooperation among team members
• Ensure adherence to all Cognizant and client mandated regulations.


Job Requirements:

• Mandatory hands-on experience on Big Data / Hadoop for a minimum of 3-4 years
• Non-Big Data experience in data related topics ideally
• Expertise in one or more of any of the Big Data Distributions (Cloudera, Horton, MapR, Amazon)
• An overall understanding of all architectural components of a Big Data / Hadoop ecosystem
• Experience on cloud based solutions (AWS, Azure, Google), an added plus
• Experience and exposure to a traditional data warehousing / business intelligence projects an added plus
• The role will involve intensive interactions with business users (potentially not technically savvy), and will require an ability to understand needs, capture the requirements appropriately and to translate these requirements into solution outputs that would meet all expectations
• The role will require flexibility to move across the solution stack based on the design and project needs
• Given there will always be technical limitations and constraints, the role does require the individual to be with an innovative bend of mind to further go on and suggest workarounds and alternate solutions and designs
• Given the variety of stakeholders involved, the role will need very strong interpersonal and communication skills
• The role will require working in an Agile / Scrum environment. And hence these will be highly sought for as a core competency
• Very good analytical and trouble-shooting skills, not just technical but also functional
• Other preferred skills – Programming in Python, Spark, Scala
• Nice to have –Domain Skills (Any)
