Machine learning, personalized health, and predictive medicine. If these areas resonate with you, join us to work on foundational technologic and scientific challenges at Spiden. We are a Swiss MedTech venture with the vision to use state-of-the-art detection techniques to continuously monitor and learn from a wide range of vital indicators, to better manage chronic diseases, to customize critical treatments and, to improve your health.
Your mission
Using proprietary optical sensors, Spiden is building a cutting-edge biomedical data generation pipeline to train medical-grade Machine Learning algorithms to infer glucose transcutaneously from spectral measurements. To achieve our vision, our team and advisory board consist of world experts coming from top academic institutions (ETH, EPFL, Columbia, Princeton, or Harvard among others) and industry leaders (Baxter, Roche, Lonza). We are looking for a talented, experienced, voraciously curious, and self-driven professional with great opportunities for growth.
Responsibilities
As an Optical Sensors Data Scientist or Machine Learning Research Intern, under the support of experienced Senior ML scientists and Electronics Engineers, you will work at the interface between ML and hardware development. You will be involved with experimental data coming from our state-of-the-art optical sensors, working on research of ML models that involve sensors data processing. You will also have the opportunity to support our hardware development by exploring opportunities for in-hardware data/ML processing (e.g., edge computing).
In this role, you will be part of the Electronics Engineering team working closely with all RnD teams, including Machine Learning Science and Engineering, Biomedical Science, Biophotonics, and Integrated photonic.
Your profile

- Demonstrable experience (during studies or personal projects) in writing software on Python primarily, alternatively C, C++, Java, or similar.
- High attention to detail and proven ability to manage multiple, competing priorities, being comfortable in a dynamic and sometimes ambiguous environment.
- Demonstrable interest in research bundled with the capacity to digest scientific literature effectively
- Excellent communication skills
Desirable
- Experience with scientific analysis packages such as NumPy, SciPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn
- Experience with ML frameworks such as PyTorch primarily, or Tensorflow
- Exposure (during studies or personal projects) to optical sensors and/or to image processing
- Exposure (during studies or personal projects) to the Google Cloud Platform or another public cloud platform would be a plus
