LINE MANAGER: Manager, Nautical and Pier Development Projects
Reporting into the Nautical and Pier Developments Projects Manager. The Port Operations Naval Architect/Marine Engineer supports the activities of the New Building Department and the Port Development team to ensure that all newbuild projects and pier infrastructures are suitably designed based on operational and nautical considerations.
• Working together with the New Building team of architects and Naval Engineers to devise the best functional design of new pier development projects and new vessel layouts
• Using CAD to be able to optimally place designed vessels in ports to ensure that shoreside infrastructure are optimised for safety and operative reasons
• Communicating with the Port Development team for new ports and special projects to provide marine infrastructure feedback into design process
• Participates as a stakeholder, together with the Port Development, Operations team and 3rd party companies in the designing and planning of various Marine projects (new piers, dredging etc.)
• Ensures that MSC’s Port Operations specific Mooring Software System is developed and monitored, so that vessels can effectively use it with planning mooring operations. You will be the main shoreside contact with vessels for this software
• Manages mooring analysis in critical ports and new port developments
• Carry out new port inspections in regards to pier design and infrastructure
• Works closely with the Marine Operations team to ensure that proposed mooring deck layout and line configuration are sufficient
• Fluent English (knowledge of Italian and other European languages is preferred but not essential)
• Naval Architect or Marine Engineer background, preferably working either with shipyards or within the cruise industry itself
• Experience as Deck Officer on cruise vessels or Port Authority Marine Department is preferable but not essential
• Experience in using CAD would be preferred, but not essential
• Computer literacy with proficient knowledge of basic systems
• Flexibility, adaptability and team working
• Ability to work under pressure and multitask in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent organisation and time management skills
• Availability to travel when required and with short notice
