As a Scientist within the Controlled Release Team in the R&D Formulation department in Kaiseraugst, you will focus on the design, development and characterization of formulated prototypes with distinct functionalities aimed at being used in the field of human and animal nutrition.

You will have the great opportunity to deepen your expertise in material science, powder characterization and its correlation to the production process and final product application.
This role is a temporary assigment for 12 months.
Develop new product forms with controlled release functionalities for food, dietary supplements, pharma and feed additives.
Production of product forms of different health ingredients in the laboratory scale.
Conduct scientific literature searches on the topic matter and generate product form concepts based on sound scientific rationale.
Perform physical and chemical characterization of selected formulations (prototypes).
Perform standard release experiments (e.g. USP-2, USP-3, USP-4) on selected formulations.
Perform quantitative analysis (HPLC) of actives in product forms as well as in specific release medium.
Correlate physico-chemical properties with their applicability and release kinetics (related to application).
Generate comprehensive reporting and documentation of results and experiments, including preparation of presentations.
Support pilot plant formulation trials.
Present and discuss your findings within a project team or a scientific environment (e.g. Team/Department meetings)
PhD in controlled delivery of bioactives, material science, pharmaceutical technologies, or similar.
Proven track record (e.g. peer-reviewed publications and/or patents) in controlled delivery or own field of study.
Extensive lab experience in material science, formulation technologies, physical/chemical characterization, analytics and/or nanotechnology.
Good knowledge of in-vitro & in-vivo bio-accessibility and bioavailability assays.
Knowledge of animal biology and specifically animal-specific gastro-intestinal systems would be considered an asset.
Previous knowledge of food and feed grade excipients for controlled release would be considered a valuable asset.
Previous knowledge and/or experience in formulating probiotic microorganisms would be considered a valuable asset.
Fluent in written and spoken English. German and any other language are an asset.
