The focus of this SNSF project is to image and visualize the transmission of sound from the tympanic membrane to the oval window in human temporal bone specimens dynamically. The objectives of this post-doctoral position are to:
  • establish the dynamic in-vitro acquisition protocol with synchrotron X-ray phase contrast tomography
  • describe quantitatively the micro-movements of the ossicular chain in healthy temporal bones thanks to the development of appropriate image/signal processing protocols
  • develop segmentation tools based on Machine Learning in view of statistical approach in collaboration with the PhD working in the group

We search a motivated Post Doc Candidate to engage in our SNSF project "Dynamic phase contrast X-ray Imaging of sound transmission in the human middle ear". The research project will be the first in the world to use high-resolution synchrotron phase-contrast X-ray tomography to image the movement of the middle ear during acoustic stimulation. The project is a multidisciplinary collaboration between the "X-Ray Tomographic Microscopy" group at the Swiss Light Source (SLS) at the Paul Scherrer Institute (PSI), clinicians from the Inselspital and engineers of the University Hospital of Bern.

Your profile
You must hold a PhD degree in Biomedical engineering, Mechanical engineering or Physics. Experience in X-ray tomography, data analysis and image processing are considered as an asset. Programming skills are considered as plus. Working language is in English, a good level in spoken and written is mandatory. You should enjoy working in an interdisciplinary, multinational research environment. Being an enthusiastic researcher and a good team player will help to ensure your integration.
