Programmer in Educational Technology
The Unit for Educational Development and Technology (LET) at ETH Zürich is committed to the long-term orientation and guiding of teaching. It initiates and leads ETH-wide initiatives for strategic teaching development, co-designs the development of cutting-edge media and tech, supports curriculum design, and offers expertise, support, and inspiration to lecturers for the design of their teaching activities. In addition, the department designs quality assurance instruments and implements offers to complete students’ learning experience.
This position covers the opportunity to work on diverse projects focused on developing novel technological solutions for specific educational experiences, starting with three specific topics with the departments of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering (D-BAUG), Architecture (D-ARCH) and Environmental Systems Science (D-USYS).
- The first project focuses on the implementation of a Unity-based experience to introduce real-time sound simulation to architectural students to evaluate and design outdoors soundscapes
- The goal of the second project is to implement HTML5 interactive visualizations to support the teaching of educational medicine, focusing on the microbiome
- The third project will also be part of a Focus Terra Exhibition targeting the wider public, and will focus on HTML5 interactive visualizations to explore soil profile layers.
All projects involve co-design processes with diverse experts from the fields of professional media design, arts and scientific disciplines as well as evaluation of the user experience and learning outcomes.
We are seeking a dynamic and versatile programmer who can take the lead of the implementation of several technological solutions for learning experiences. This position includes several fast-paced missions leveraging your engineering and programming expertise to create unique and innovative experiences used at ETH Zurich in the future.
- Implementation of Unity-based learning experiences, starting with the aforementioned soundscape evaluation and design tool
- Implementation of HTML5 web applications, starting with the aforementioned interactive visualizations for evolutionary medicine and soil profile layers
- Co-design with diverse experts, designers, lecturers, and students, following a user-centered approach
- Master’s degree in a relevant field
- Experience with Unity, C#, C++
- Experience with sound computation in game engines (e.g. Steam Audio, Phonon, etc), preferable experience on spatialization with higher ambisonic formats
- Experience with HTML5 / JavaScript
- Experience with interaction design and game design
- Experience with formative and summative studies of user experience and learning experience
A plus:
- Experience in teaching in designing educational activities
- Fluency in German
- 2 year project with 1 year contract and option to extend
