Avis soumis
The Space Research and Planetary Sciences Division of the University of Bern has been granted funding to lead the development of two payloads on board of the new ESA F-Class mission 'Comet Interceptor'. The University contributes a high-resolution camera system, the Comet Camera (CoCa), and a neutral gas mass spectrometer, the Mass Analyzer for Neutrals in a Coma (MANiaC), to the mission. The launch is planned in 2028. The division is also building instruments for a number of other missions. To help meet these challenges, we are now seeking an experienced System Engineer (electrical and software domain).
System Engineer (electrical and software domain)
Your emphasis will be on the lead and coordination of the electrical engineering of the CoCa and MANiaC instruments. In the first phase, the focus will be primarily on the detailed definition of the requirements of the electronic modules and interfaces in close collaboration with our consortium partners. In a later stage, procurement of space components, coordination of AIV activities and maintenance of documentation will be an additional major aspect.

* Lead and coordination of the electronics development for CoCa and MANiaC instruments from requirements engineering to the development and assembly of the electronic modules / firmware.
* Lead of the internal electronics engineering team (2 electrical engineers, integration engineer, PCB layouter)
* Monitoring of the electrical engineering carried out by our consortium partners.
* Issue and manage internal and external requirements and interface documents.
* Coordination of the manufacturing and assembly of printed circuit boards.
* Lead the AIV activities of the electronics systems and maintain the related documents.
* Evaluation and procurement of space components
* Monitor overall electronics systems performance and technical budgets.
* Support the project management with schedule and budget control.

For this position a sound track record in the development of complex electronics is expected. Further, experience in managing complex development projects is required; familiarity with space projects and knowledge of the ECSS standards would be an advantage.

The working language within the division is German, but English is also frequently used, especially for project meetings and documentation. Therefore, good English language skills are a must.
