Job DescriptionAre you a technician looking for a challenging professional experience to further your career? If so, joining CERN's TTE programme may very well give you that challenge. This position as an Electronic Technician is part of our prestigious TTE programme. The SMM-RME section is responsible for the design and implementation of the radiation tests on Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) electronic components. The RME section is responsible for ensuring that the COTS components to be used in the accelerator equipment systems are radiation tolerant and can withstand the radiation levels of the injectors' chain and of the LHC. The section is also responsible for the electronics components of the measurement and actuation systems for all CERN beam-intercepting devices, such as conditioning sensors of the LHC Collimators, custom stepper motor drivers, FPGA development for motion control, and other. The section also provides support for the development of electronic systems for the entire SMM group. Functions The candidate will join the RME section and will be involved in all stages of the design, development, production and assembly of different electronic systems and test platforms. The trainee will mainly deal with printed circuit board schematic and PCB development. He/she will be involved in soldering, assembly and testing activities. The trainee will work on embedded mixed signals systems made of complex electronics such as FPGAs, Microcontrollers, Analog to Digital converters and Analog front-ends. QualificationsIn order to qualify for this place on the programme you will need to meet the following requirements: You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State (https://home.cern/about/member-states);You have a Technical Diploma in electronics or equivalent (careers.cern/ttediplomas), and no more than 4 years' relevant experience after finishing your diploma;If you are currently studying, you are still eligible to apply, although you are expected to have obtained your qualification by the start of your appointment at CERN;If you hold a BSc or MSc, you are not eligible. However, you may be eligible for the Fellowship Programme.You should have at least a working knowledge of English or French. Specific skills required for this job: Comprehensive use of electrical and electronic components.Ability in soldering and assemblyExperience in PCB developmentKnowledge of microcontroller or FPGA programming software will be an asset.
