Director, Academic Pathway

The Company

As such, WAoS has delivered programmes to over 10,000 students across all corners of the globe. Its partners and clients include several international sports federations, education organisations, national governments, and both the International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee.

 

 


The Role

WAoS is in the process of developing an academic pathway in sports management and a research centre. The pathway is intended to take students through an integrated offering starting from an International Baccalaureate Career Related Programme (IBCP) and running through undergraduate and postgraduate courses as well as MBA modules. These programmes are being designed and developed through partnerships with a variety of academic institutions including International Baccalaureate (IB), Federation University in Australia (undergraduate), the University of London (PGC), and University College of London (Masters and Research Centre). All these programmes will be offered to an international or global audience.

 

WAoS is now looking to appoint a Director, Academic Pathway to manage the development of the pathway and setup worldwide teaching centres to deliver the programmes within the pathway. The Director, Academic Pathway will report to the Deputy Managing Director. The appointee will be required to work closely with the other Directors of WAoS, and to develop strong ties with the industry partner organisations of WAoS who will play a significant role in the success of the pathway and it’s implementation.

 

 Key Areas of Responsibility

<        Business Plan

  • Developing a business plan for WAoS in relation to the teaching centres setup and academic pathway development with forecasts for sales, costs and profits.
  • Translate this into a 1-year operating plan with accompanying budgets.
  • Take responsibility for delivering against plan and budget.
  • Recommend any action required to compensate for shortfalls or capitalise on opportunities.

 Study Centres Setup

  • Define the role of study centres in the development of the academic pathway.
  • Identify the strategic options for setting them up and make recommendations on the form they should take.
  • Determine the number and location of the study centres.
  • Develop a RFP process for obtaining suitable study centres.
  • In light of the above, put forward an implementation plan, and once agreed, take responsibility for its execution.
  • Ensure that regional and local strategy is clearly articulated and create an organisational structure for the Centres that reflects WAoS regional and local goals and priorities.

 Study Centres Management

  • Centre Management and Development: To recruit and develop an international and local team to implement teaching centre strategic plans and meet financial targets by positioning the centre as the “go to” place for studying International Sports Management programmes.
  • Marketing and Sales: Through a marketing orientation, develop an action plan to establish the centre in the selected region, raise brand awareness and encourage positive perceptions of WAoS through an effective sales strategy and quality service delivery.
  • Financial Planning and Management:Agree, report on and be accountable for financial and impact targets for across WAoS portfolio of educational products offered in the Teaching Centres and to ensure quality standards are met.  Develop teaching centre operational structures, systems and processes to ensure the effective running of the teaching centre operations.

  Academic Pathway Management and Marketing

  • Overall management of the educational contracts and relationships with the delivery partners of the Academic Pathway.
  • Carry out a detailed analysis of the market for each of the programmes, and the strengths and weaknesses of the competition.
  • In light of the above, develop a marketing plan for each of the programmes in conjunction with partner organisations.
  • Identify the roles of WAoS and partners in implementation of the plan.
  • Help in selling the programme to the industry partners of WAoS and other major sports organisations.
  • Monitor the marketplace reaction to the plan, and make adjustments as necessary.

     Organisation Structure

  • Define the staffing structure to be built under the Director, Academic Pathway for effective delivery of the pathways and Teaching Centres.
  • Take responsibility for filling the posts agreed, and managing the team once appointed.

 

  Knowledge, Experience and Skills- The successful candidate should have:

  • At least 5 years of Sales/Marketing and/or General Management Experience in the service industry with proven track record of meeting business targets. Knowledge of the sports industry.
  • A degree at Masters level or above.
  • Strong competency in the areas of leadership, business development, planning and developing policy and procedures, people management and development.
  • Track record of establishing and maintaining professional relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to deliver tasks to tight deadlines.
  • Excellent spoken and written English and communication skills (reading, speaking, writing).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office software.

 

  Remuneration - Depending on the candidate’s experience.
