Your Role
 

As a Catastrophe Modelers at Group Reinsurance Analytics, you will manage the CatRisk exercise and build all products derived from this data submission. Being an expert for the physics and special properties of natural catastrophes, you will serve the wider cat community with your knowledge and insight (Zurich own view of risk, exposure management, underwriting support, portfolio optimization, strengthening of community resilience to natural catastrophes).

 

As a Catastrophe Modeler your main responsibilities will involve: 

  • Reviewing the results of the global nat cat risk data call and modeling process (CatRisk exercise), identifying and communicating drivers of change to all pertinent stakeholders

  • Preparing data and modeling results for external submissions to the reinsurance market and explaining observed changes

  • Pricing and benchmarking internal and external cat reinsurance (internal renewals, KPIs, quantitative support to Reinsurance Management)

  • Maintaining Group Cat Risk Model (cat modeling input and parameter uploads, structural changes)

  • Quarterly measurement of adherence to the Zurich Risk Policy and related reporting

  • Quarterly quantification of economic and regulatory nat cat capital and related reporting

  • Supporting the validation of vendor models and building of Zurich own view of risk

  • Cat event response to developing catastrophes (loss estimates, support to claims)

  • User administered systems and software maintenance

  • Interaction with Group IT in respect of non-user-administered software and systems

 
Your Skills and Experience
 

As a Catastrophe Modeler your skills and qualifications will ideally include: 

  • University degree (masters or higher) in quantitative earth-/climate science, physics, mathematics, statistics or structural/environmental engineering

  • Solid knowledge of statistics and probability
  • Familiarity with Geographic Information Systems
  • Strong analytical skills and data analysis/mining capabilities

  • Flexibility, responsiveness and result-orientation
  • Awareness for and openess to intercultural issues
  • Strong communication skills and good presentation skills
  • Fluent English written and spoken
  • Applied knowledge of Nat Cat Models and financial modeling tools, preferably RiskLink and ReMetrica, are a plus

  • Working experience in insurance/reinsurance industry is a plus

  • SQL knowledge is a strong asset, other programming skills are a plus
