The Global Private Banking communications team is responsible for the creation of unmissable content both internally and externally in support of the business’ strategic objectives and priorities. We author, develop and deliver content that helps explain the changed, the complex, the new, the evolved, the lessons and the successful.



We create conversations between individuals and groups to nurture an environment where people can be open, work collaboratively together, feel proud to work with each other and within private banking. We work with the senior management of Global Private Banking including the CEO, COO, Regional Business Heads in Asia, EMEA and US, the CIO and leaders in the enabling functions. We provide direction, advice and guidance on employee communications strategy, media relations and PR. We design and deliver global campaigns that aim to provoke conversation about important social topics that are impacting the future of wealth and how it shapes society. We collaborate with regional and country communications teams around the world to deliver targeted, consistent and unmissable communications that support global business priorities.



This role is responsible for delivering employee communications and media relations activity in Switzerland, in line with business objectives and strategic priorities. The focus is on private banking, the dominant business line in Switzerland, though the incumbent will also provide communications support for HSBC’s Wholesale Banking and Asset Management operations in Switzerland.
The role holder is a member of the Communications team in Switzerland, which includes a Communications Manager and the Head of Communications, Switzerland/Head of Media Relations, Global Private Banking, to whom this role reports. The role is based in Geneva, Switzerland. The role holder will work closely with other members of the Private Banking communications team, communications colleagues supporting other lines of business and the Group’s global Communications function.

Impact on the Business



Create and deliver impactful employee communications 



  • Provide communications advice and support for business transformation initiatives, technology programmes, strategic announcements and executive communications. This includes liaising with the Switzerland CEO, other members of senior management and subject matter experts, attending steering committees, producing communications plans, developing key messaging and writing employee communications.  


  • Manage content for employee communications events in Switzerland (e.g. monthly employee meetings and townhalls), working with senior management.


  • Implement global employee campaigns in Switzerland, present insights from employee research led by Communications and support HSBC’s cultural agenda through employee communication initiatives, as well as trialing new activities.



Contribute to media relations



  • Support the Swiss bank’s efforts to raise its public profile through proactive media outreach. This includes activating Group and Private Banking campaigns in Switzerland, placing editorials and creating interview opportunities for business spokespeople.


  • Help manage reputational issues involving private banking in Switzerland such as legacy legal matters, by drafting media statements and key messages and interacting with journalists.


  • Depending on the interests and qualifications of the candidate, the role could encompass some media relations activity for the Global Private Bank.

Role Context



  • The role holder will report into the Head of Communications, Switzerland/Head of Media Relations, Global Private Banking. The incumbent is expected to act with a high degree of autonomy, while receiving guidance as appropriate.


  • The incumbent will act as a deputy to the Head of Communications, Switzerland, deputising when they are absent.


Management of Risk



  • The incumbent will continually assess the operational risks associated with the role and inherent in the business, taking account of changing economic or market conditions, legal and regulatory requirements, operating procedures and practices and the impacts of new technology.


  • This will be achieved by ensuring that all actions account for the likelihood of operational risk occurring.


  • The incumbent will address any concerns in conjunction with line management and/or the appropriate department.


 



Experience & Qualifications



  • Several years of solid work experience in a communications role


  • Employee communications experience is a must, some media relations experience is highly desirable


  • Knowledge of the financial service industry, ideally with prior work experience in a bank in Switzerland or with HSBC


  • Excellent command of written and spoken English; fluency in French and/or German a strong plus


  • Proven ability to deal with ambiguity and pressurised situations


  • Strong presentation skills and credibility with management


  • Empathy – ability see someone’s else’s point of view and perspective


  • Collaboration – ability to work with others, compromise and negotiate the right way to progress together


  • Creative writing skills – ability to write a story and a headline that grabs the attention of the reader


  • Stakeholder management – ability to understand the needs of the people you work with and respond accordingly


  • Project management skills – ability to manage the completion of multiple tasks within a set timeframe


  • Data analysis – ability to collate and review data on team activities and design relevant/useful MI


  • Research – ability to identify and review new techniques and help the team adopt best practice approaches
