The Laboratory for Thin Films and Photovoltaics is known for its innovative research in the field of thin-film photovoltaic technologies. The Laboratory holds several world records for power conversion efficiency of flexible CIGS and all-perovskite tandem solar cells. We are looking for a process engineer to develop large area perovskite solar module using industrially scalable methods, such as slot-die coating and PVD methods.
Your tasks
  • Preparation and implementation of technical/scientific experiments using physical vapor deposition (magnetron sputtering, thermal evaporation, electron beam evaporation), atomic layer deposition (ALD), and slot-die coating methods
  • Material characterizations and analysis using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), UV-Vis spectrometry, XRF, profilometry, photoluminescence etc.
  • Laser scribing and solar module fabrication on both glass and flexible substrate
  • Preparation of experiment reports
  • Operation and maintenance of coating systems
Your profile
  • Completed MSc or PhD training/degree
  • Hands-on experience with thin-film technologies for independent, goal-oriented work with a high degree of flexibility and enjoyment of application-oriented tasks
  • Interest in the field of solar energy
  • Personal responsibility and a high level of safety and risk awareness
  • Good written and spoken English skills are a prerequisite and German is advantageous
Our offer
We offer a highly stimulating research environment with excellent infrastructure with plenty of possibilities for personal and professional development. You will work on important and promising solutions to the global energy problem in cooperation with different academic and industry partners.

The starting date is October 2024 or upon mutual agreement. The work will be carried out at Empa in Dübendorf. The initial contract is for one year and can be extended depending on the performance and available funding.

We live a culture of inclusion and respect. We welcome all people who are interested in innovative, sustainable and meaningful activities - that's what counts.

We look forward to receiving your complete online application including a letter of motivation, CV, certificates, diplomas and contact details of two reference persons. Please submit these exclusively via our job portal. Applications by e-mail and by post will not be considered.
