The Position 

As the Head of Data Science and Advanced Analytics within our Data and Analytics Chapter, you will lead a global team across the organization to develop methodologies and algorithms to generate impactful evidence and insights for our business.

You will rely on your advanced analytical skills, and your ability to interact with cross-functional experts to enable us to optimize business performance, solve complex data problems and deliver the insight that helps to define our strategy. You will engage with Presidents or Deans of Universities for collaborations.

We are looking for post-graduates with management experience who have expertise in mathematical/statistical models and machine learning algorithms to give insights, by combining a profound understanding of Roche business and frontiers of academic research.

In this role, you will: 

  • Lead a global team of Data Scientists
  • Co-create and lead the strategy of Data Science and Advanced Analytics by collaborating with the Data Analyst and Data Engineer team
  • Investigate, analyse and apply comprehensive statistical/mathematical models and computing science algorithms across life science business contexts including research, development, commercial, finance and logistics
  • Investigate available tools and technologies in Machine Learning and Deep Learning
  • Support collaboration with third parties including Academia and industry
  • Publish papers to demonstrate expertise in research areas
  • Support due diligence of potential acquisitions

Who you are

You have a Doctor Degree with a strong focus on mathematics, statistics or computer science. You feel comfortable engaging with Presidents / Deans of Universities to ‘incubate’ ideas and to initiate collaboration.

In addition, you bring the following skills and competencies: 

  • Thorough understanding of Academic research interests in various domains
  • Ability to solve problems by using Machine Learning or Deep Learning techniques
  • Proficiency in at least one of the following programming languages: R, MatLab or Python
  • Experience with modelling in the area of biomedical sciences or healthcare
  • Experience with high-performance computing by using GPU or Quantum Computing
  • You are a quick learner and passionate about continuously developing your skills and knowledge
  • Ability to work in an interdisciplinary ‘Umfeld’. You are able to interpret and translate very abstract and technical approaches into a healthcare and business relevant solution
  • You are a strong team player and able to work effectively in a collaborative, fast-paced, multi-tasking environment
  • You have excellent communication skills and a demonstrated ability to interact with different teams and parties of the organization, such as business, technical and academic partners. Fluency in English
