The Lymphoma Genomics Group, headed by Professor Francesco Bertoni at the Institute of Oncology Research
(IOR), seeks a PhD student to work on transcriptome regulation in lymphomas. The Lymphoma Genomics Group has
strong expertise in studying genomic and epigenetic alterations and novel drug development in lymphoid tumors. The
candidate must be highly motivated and interested in cancer genomics and bioinformatics.
The candidate is expected to use state-of-the-art bioinformatics tools to analyze next-generation sequencing studies
to study transcriptome and epigenome changes in experimental and clinical lymphoma samples, including single-cell
sequencing studies. Work will be done under the supervision of the group's senior bioinformatician and within the IOR
Bioinformatics Core Unit.
The PhD student will be enrolled in the International PhD Program in Cancer Biology and Oncology of the Università
della Svizzera italiana (USI) to which IOR is affiliated. IOR is linked with the Oncology Institute of Southern Switzerland
(IOSI), one of the world lymphoma referral centers, and an institutional member of the Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics
(SIB).
Requirements: MSc/PhD in computer science, bioinformatics, computational biology, biology or related disciplines.
The ideal candidate must have experience analyzing next-generation sequencing data (e.g., RNA-seq, CHIP-seq,
whole exome sequencing), mathematical and statistical knowledge, fluency in R or Matlab, and knowledge of
programming/scripting language. Excellent knowledge of English and good interpersonal and communication skills
are required. Basic knowledge in molecular and cell biology, molecular and experimental oncology, and related
experimental techniques is highly desirable.
The IOR ,affiliated with USI, is in a new high-tech research building that hosts more than 20 research groups. It has
state-of-the-art labs and facilities. Together with the Institute for Research in Biomedicine (IRB), the IOR is a member
of Bios+, a non-profit association aiming to promote, support, and coordinate its members' scientific research and
teaching activities (www.biosplus.ch). IOR offers a multicultural and thriving environment, daily occasions of
interaction with world leaders in the fields of cancer, basic immunology, and cancer immunology, an exciting research
project, and multiple occasions of interaction with world leaders in the fields of cancer, basic immunology, and cancer
immunology (see Ph.D. lecture series at PhD-program).
