Postdoc Research Associate Infection Biology Focus Area
The AO is a medically guided, not-for-profit organization led by an international group of surgeons specialized in the treatment of trauma and disorders of the musculoskeletal system. Founded in 1958 by 13 visionary surgeons, the AO fosters one of the most extensive networks of over 215,000 sur-geons, operating room personnel, and scientists in over 100 countries.

The mission of the AO Research Institute Davos (ARI) is excellence in applied Preclinical Research and Development within trauma and disorders of the musculoskeletal system and translation of this knowledge to achieve more effective patient care worldwide. The ARI contributes high quality applied Preclinical Research and Development (exploratory and translational) focused towards clinical applications/solutions as well as investigates and improves the performance of surgical procedures, devices and substances. It fosters a close relationship with the AO medical community, academic societies, and universities and provides a research environment and support for AO clinicians.

A postdoctoral research associate position is available in the Infection Biology Focus Area of the AO Research Institute Davos (ARI).

Postdoc Research Associate Infection Biology Focus Area
The successful applicant will be working within a multi-disciplinary team investigating host-pathogen interactions in the context of Staphylococcus aureus fracture-related infection (FRI). The position may be particularly suitable for candidates experienced in microbiology (bacteriology and virology) with an interest in developing cross-disciplinary skills including mammalian cell culture, in vivo studies, and host pathogen interactions. The successful candidate will lead a research project investigating S. aureus infection of bone, with a focus on anti-virulence strategies and bacteriophage therapy.


The ideal candidate

  • is an independent thinker and highly self-motivated
  • holds a degree in microbiology, biology, or a related field
  • has excellent all-around bacteriology laboratory skills and familiarity with common pathogens encountered in FRI
  • has experience in biofilm culture, interactions of bacteria with bone, confocal microscopy, and bacteriophage culture will be valued
  • A high level of spoken and written English is required

Nice to have:

  • experience in laboratory animal studies
  • familiarity with a cross-cultural/interdisciplinary environment
  • A high level of spoken and written English is required
