The Scenic Group is a leading luxury global travel company with offices around the world and has grown over its 33-year history to include all-inclusive escorted tours; two award-winning river cruise lines – Scenic and Emerald Waterways; and, in 2019, the World’s First Discovery Yacht – Scenic Eclipse.

Scenic has 4 luxury river cruise ships in France, one based on the Seine, another in Bordeaux, and two on the Rhône (one of which is under the Emerald brand). Originally founded in Australia the company now is established worldwide and has been experiencing significant growth. The company’s European operations are based out of Zug in Switzerland and the company has a French entity through which the crew in France are employed under French law.

Human Resources Manager, France

Role & Responsibilities:

The Human Resources Manager – France, is a new role and will require a lot of independence, conscientiousness and attention to detail. The crew on the ships are employed under the hospitality division (waiters, chamber maids, barmen, butlers, receptionists, hotel managers etc.) or nautical (captains and sailors). The main elements of the role include:

  • Overseeing all matters in relation to HR in France
  • Issuing of contracts to all crew members and following up with related administration
  • Being responsible for the processes and procedures for time off, sickness, working hours and all other related HR matters to be sure always in full compliance with French regulations
  • Providing accurate and timely variable pay elements to the payroll provider (and verifying the payslips)
  • Hiring and managing an assistant who would report to you (seasonal or full time)
  • Working in partnership with local third parties such as recruiters, consultants and lawyers
  • Ensuring that grievance handling procedures are in place and maintained
  • Making sure that disciplinary procedures are followed properly and advising where necessary
  • Remain up to date with regulatory changes within labor law and collective bargaining agreements


  • Minimum experience: 5 years within a similar role, ideally within the tourism sector
  • Bilingual French & English (written and spoken)
  • Comfortable both with administrative and managerial work
  • Stress resistant, approachable, honest and flexible


  • Degree level in human resources (bac+ 4 minimum)
  • Good knowledge of French labor laws

Location: Zug (Switzerland) with 50% home working
