The World Academy of Sport (WAoS) is a global leader in Education for Sport, providing tailored education programmes for sports administrators, coaches, athletes and officials for over 10 years and recognised as world sport’s education partner.


 


Through a number of strategic global partnerships the WAoS has steadily built a global student alumni of over 10,000 across all corners of the globe. Its partners include several International Sport Federations, education organisations, universities, national governments and the International Olympic Committee and International Paralympic Committee.


 


The Role


 


Working closely with the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Olympic Games Knowledge Management (OGKM) department, WAoS has developed the Olympic Games Learning Model (OGLM). WAoS seeks to appoint an energetic and effective Programme Manager who will manage both the WAoS and IOC OGKM Project Management Office (PMO) function.


 


The Programme Manager will report to the WAoS Director, Strategy, Finance and Central Services. The main location of work will be at WAoS office based in Etoy, Switzerland and two days a week will be required to work at the IOC office in Pully, Switzerland.


 


The appointed candidate must be legally allowed to work in Switzerland.

Key Responsibilities

 

Key responsibility areas include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Perform PMO function for IOC OGKM Department (50%)

  • Responsible for centralised project reporting and status tracking using appropriate dashboards and provides visibility to the head of department.
  • Consolidate available data and provide analysis to inform strategic decision making.
  • Ensure project management processes are maintained to a high standard by workstream leads.
  • Ensure key deliverables are consistently achieved within given timeframes. 

 

Establish WAoS Central PMO function (30%) 

  • Centralise project management reporting system across the business.
  • Ensure the WAoS project management system is implemented consistently across the business.

  • Work with the Product Leads and Education Services team to ensure operational workflows for each education methodology reflect the strategic and policy guidelines.

  • Report all project status, progress, resource requirements and performance.

  • Identify resource allocation and gaps across project portfolio and work with the management team to optimise resource utilisation and create efficiencies across the business.

  • Assist Project Owners in the identification and reporting of project issues and develop an escalation process to manage issues.

  • Track and manage the overall business risk register and drive risk owners to implement risk mitigation actions.

Project Management for WAoS, IOC and OCOG projects (15%) 

  • Support the development and management of the project budgets, scope and deliverables.
  • Work with WAoS product leads, IOC and OCOG counterparts to manage any scope changes and new requirements. 

Other (5%) 

  • Other actions as directed from time to time by the Director. 

 

Knowledge, experience and skills

 

The successful candidate must display proven skills in project and programme management and looking to further their career progression in this field through this exciting and dynamic role. Based on this profile of career development it is also essential that the candidate must have formal qualifications in the profession and be able to demonstrate how they have successfully applied these in a similar role.  

 

  • A minimum of five years’ experience in a management role of PMO function.

  • Must have a formal recognised programme and/or project management qualification such as PRNCE2, PMI or equivalent.

  • Proven skills, desiring a career progression in programme and project management.

  • Must have advanced skills in Microsoft Excel, Project and PowerPoint.

  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective project management processes.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with a complex job description and strong attention to detail.

  • Proven ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with key stakeholders and understanding of management in a political context.

  • Demonstrated ability to be innovative with a capacity to contribute to organisational change and growth.

  • A high level of oral and written communication in English and French with advance presentation skills.

  • Proven ability to align resources, seek the input of key constituents and manage others to achieve desired results.

  • Effective working in multi-cultural environments that require humility and influencing skills.

  • Strong negotiation skills.

  • Independent thinker and self-starter
