The English Department of the University of Zurich invites applications for a PhD Assistant to start on 1 August 2024 at the Chair for Early Modern English Literature (Prof. Dr. Isabel Karremann). This postgraduate position is initially limited to three years, with the possibility of extension for up to three years. The position is open to candidates with a completed MA who are aiming for a PhD. 60 %
Your responsibilities
Individual work on a PhD project as well as other research activities (participation in workshops, conference papers, publications, applications for external funding), independent teaching (two hours per week at BA level)) and assisting in administrative tasks and research projects at the Chair. Your profile
We are looking for a member of staff with an excellent MA degree in the field of English literature. You are well versed in English literature and cultural contexts (especially in Renaissance literature and early modern drama) and willing to conduct research framed by recent theoretical approaches in the field of early modern studies. You are keen to work in a team collaborating on research and teaching. You are proficient in verbal, written and interpersonal communication in English and have a competence in German or are eager to acquire a working knowledge of German within the first two years. We offer an assistant/PhD position with a workload of 60% (initially limited to a three-year period, with possible extension for up to 3 three years, salary according to canton regulations) in an internationally renowned, committed and collegial research team, which will support you in your independent research.
