Research / Student Assistant in the International Political Economy and Environmental Politics group
The International Political Economy and Environmental Politics group is looking for a Research Assistant to support an ongoing longitudinal survey data collection project, the Swiss Environmental Panel (SEP), which is conducted bi-annually in cooperation with the Swiss Federal Office for the Environment (BAFU).
This project explores public opinion dynamics in Switzerland in relation to climate change and environmental preferences and behavior, changes therein, and linkages to preferences and behavior in other policy realms. To answer these questions, the SEP team relies on an original approach combining survey and geocoded data with survey experiments.
Your tasks include programming surveys in Qualtrics, creating documentations such as questionnaires, codebooks and technical reports. In addition to that you will also support the teams with data analysis and reporting to third party stakeholders such as the Federal Office for the Environment (BAFU), maintain our custom-made R package and provide support to the research teams and support panel management tasks such as data cleaning and data storage.
Requirements
- excellent oral and written communication skills in English and German
- good programming skills in R
- high degree of self-organization and ability to work autonomously
- enrolled in a Master program at a Swiss university
Desirable
- a strong command of R Markdown and Latex
- previous experience with Qualtrics
- willingness and motivation to further develop these skills in R and Qualtrics, e.g. programming, analysis of spatial data, etc
- strong oral and written communication skills in French and/or Italian
- interest in public opinion research and environmental politics

Assisting the Swiss Environmental Panel provides you with the opportunity to learn more about the fields of survey methodology and environmental politics. You will mainly work with the members of the panel surveys including the other research assistants. Work times and locations are flexible, apart from regular team meetings. The salary is according to ETH rules (30.00 CHF/hour).
