PhD position in Electrochemical Energy Storage and Conversion
The Electrochemical Energy Systems Laboratory (PI: Prof. Lukatskaya) in the Department of Mechanical and Process Engineering at ETH Zurich is inviting applications for a PhD position in electrochemical energy storage and conversion (broadly defined).
Our group studies fundamental processes in solutions, materials, and at the electrode-electrolyte interfaces using a combination of the different in-situ and ex-situ characterization techniques coupled with detailed electrochemical studies. We then apply this fundamental knowledge to the design of new electrolytes for batteries and electrocatalysis that can deliver improved performance, cost, efficiency, and safety. Our recently renovated labs are located in the Zentrum campus and offer well-equipped electrochemistry and wet chemistry laboratory space. For in-situ studies, we have differential electrochemical mass-spectrometry, electrochemical quartz crystal microbalance with dissipation monitoring EQCM-D, and in-situ FTIR.
This full-time position offers students an excellent opportunity to delve into energy science and gain deep fundamental knowledge of electrochemical processes. You will join an inclusive, non-discriminating, and supportive working environment that praises scientific curiosity and creativity. Applications are accepted until the position is filled.
You should have a recent Master’s degree (or be close to its completion) in Chemistry, Material Science, or closely related disciplines from an internationally recognized university. We are looking for candidates who are self-driven highly motivated, creative, and excited to work in interdisciplinary teams. Although we welcome candidates with diverse backgrounds, having prior experience in:
- Batteries, electrocatalysis and/or electrochemistry
- Organic synthesis
- Synchrotron facilities and/or other in-situ characterization techniques are a big plus
ETH Zurich is a family-friendly employer with excellent working conditions. You can look forward to an exciting working environment, cultural diversity and attractive offers and benefits.
