This position is within the Ophthalmology team, part of the Pharma Research and Early Development (pRED) organization.

The I2O Translational Area (DTA) of Roche Pharmaceutical Research & Early Development (pRED) has an opening for a Scientist position within the department of Ophthalmology located in Basel, Switzerland. This group of Roche scientists is focused on the discovery of therapeutic approaches for eye diseases such as age related macular degeneration, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma and dry eye along with complications of those diseases (i.e. fibrosis, vascular defects, and neurodegeneration).

We are seeking a highly motivated and talented scientist to explore and identify novel drug targets for ocular diseases. An expertise in in-ivivo and in vitro models of ocular disease is preferred, but not required if the applicant has strong expertise in fibrosis. Hands on experience with retinal imaging techniques (OCT, FA), retinal function measures (ERG, OKT) and dissection of ocular tissue for subsequent sample preparation for downstream ex vivo analyses (histopathology, microscopy, proteomics, RNA-seq) is desirable. You will hold these primary responsibilities:

  • Independent project management of new drug targets

  • Utilize in vitro and in vivo models of ocular disease to identify and examine potential drug targets.

  • Communicate scientific progress through publication in peer-reviewed journals.

You hold a PhD and have conducted a post-doc in an appropriate field (industry experience preferred)

Hands-on experience with animal handling and procedures.

Familiar with ocular disease or fibrosis models and have experience directly performing experiments using these models

Have hands-on experience in vitro systems using neurons, epithelial, or endothelial cells.

You are well organized and committed to formal record-keeping, a team player, and you foster a collaborative spirit with scientists and colleagues. You can adapt to a fast-paced, changing environment, are fluent in English and have good presentation and communication skills.
